ST. JOSEPH NIVAS SPECIAL SCHOOL FOR THE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY CHALLENGED

Founded in 2001 with a deep sense of compassion and commitment, St. Joseph Nivas Special School began its mission in Chikkakamanahalli, Bangalore with just six children—Aruna, Sindhu, Roja, Antony Mary, Velankanni, and Johnson—all of whom had both physical and intellectual challenges. What began as a small initiative has now grown into a thriving center of care and education for nearly 65 children with intellectual disabilities.

At the heart of the school’s mission is the unwavering dedication of the Sisters, who devote themselves wholeheartedly to the well-being and development of these special children. Many of the students come from economically disadvantaged families in nearby villages, where access to specialized care is limited. The Sisters provide not just education, but also nourishment, therapy, emotional support, and unconditional love.

A Daily Journey of Love

To ensure that every child can attend school, regardless of where they live, the Sisters operate a school vehicle that travels over 85 kilometers daily. They personally pick up and drop off the children from the following areas:

  • JP Nagara

  • Hulimavu

  • Gottigere

  • Jigini

  • Meenakshi Temple

  • Arikere

  • Beguru

  • Basavanapura

  • Chikkakamanahalli

  • Doddakamanahalli

  • Hommadevanahalli

  • CK Palya

  • Kalenagara

  • Devanahalli

This daily outreach reflects the Sisters’ determination to reach the most vulnerable, ensuring that no child is left without access to the education and care they deserve.

Through their compassionate presence and consistent service, the Sisters of St. Joseph Nivas Special School continue to make a profound difference in the lives of these children—instilling confidence, nurturing dignity, and offering hope for a brighter, more independent future.
