SACRED HEART ANBAGAM

DINDIGUL

Establishment of the Community: 29. 06. 2018

The Beginnings

At the invitation of Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Paulsamy, Bishop of the Diocese of Dindigul, the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence (Guanellian Sisters) began their mission at Bishop Antony’s Home of Love, an institution dedicated to the care and education of school-going children—many of whom come from underprivileged families or are semi-orphans.

The community was officially established on 29th June 2018, coinciding with the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. Sr. Emelda (Superior), Sr. Esther, and Sr. Sobitha were the pioneering members of this new foundation. They had arrived earlier, on 6th June 2018, to prepare for the inauguration and begin their service.

The Sisters play an active role in assisting, educating, and accompanying the children residing in the Home. Their mission is deeply rooted in love, compassion, and a commitment to holistic development. Each day, the children are engaged in structured activities including yoga, meditation, gardening, and academic support, with special attention given to students who are academically weaker.

Extended Mission and Social Outreach

Sr. Esther served for five years as Coordinator and Counsellor at the Dindigul Multipurpose Social Service Society (DMSSS), particularly through the Childline 1098 initiative, offering protection and support for children in distress. The Sisters also conduct counseling sessions, awareness programs, and evening tuition classes for the children of the Home.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Sr. Sobitha took the initiative to offer tailoring classes to young girls, including those who had dropped out of school. This skill-building program continued even after the lockdown period, helping girls gain confidence and practical knowledge.

Parish Involvement

The Sisters are also deeply involved in parish ministry, contributing through:

  • Teaching Sunday Catechism

  • Distributing Holy Communion

  • Animating Basic Christian Communities (Anbiyams)

Current Mission Focus

Today, the Sisters remain fully committed to their mission at Bishop Antony’s Home of Love. They continue to provide comprehensive care and education to the children, nurturing their spiritual, emotional, academic, and physical development. Special attention is given to students struggling academically, ensuring they are guided and supported to succeed in their studies and exams.

With unwavering dedication, the Guanellian Sisters in Dindigul are a beacon of love and hope to the children they serve, embodying the compassionate spirit of their founder, St. Louis Guanella.
